Woman, 71, dies at Scots swimming pool as emergency services seal off leisure centre

A PENSIONER has died at a swimming pool after she became unwell with police treating the death as “unexplained”

Emergency crews raced to Perth Leisure Pool on Glasgow Road in the city this afternoon.

The incident took place at Perth Leisure Pool on Glasgow Road

The alarm was raised at around 10.55am after cops were made aware of the 71-year-old women having taken unwell.

Sadly, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are treating the death as “unexplained” but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

The council-run facilities closed for the rest for the day as they paid their condolences to the friends and family of the woman.

A spokesperson for the pool said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that a customer has died after taking unwell at Perth Leisure Pool today, our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.

“As a mark of respect Perth Leisure Pool will remain closed today.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.55am on Friday, 6 October, 2023, we were made aware of a person having taken unwell at a premises on Glasgow Road, Perth.

“Emergency services attended and a 71-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
