Who was Vicky White?
56-year-old Vicky White was a corrections officer from Lexington, Alabama.
She worked as an assistant director of corrections at the Lauderdale County Jail.
Alabama Sheriff Rick Singleton told NBC that White was an “exemplary employee.”
Regarding White’s reputation, he mentioned she had “17 years of “an unblemished record, not a single negative thing in her personnel file.
“She was admired and respected by her co-workers and her subordinates. It’s just been a total shock.”
While working at the LCJ, it was confirmed White became romantically involved with convicted felon Casey White.
Despite sharing the same last name, the two are not related.
Previously, Vicky was married to her late first husband Tommy White.
When did Vicky White help Casey White escape?
On April 29, 2022, Casey White broke out of the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
The day Vicky and Casey made their escape happened to be the former’s last day before her scheduled retirement.
Vicky reportedly told her colleagues that she was taking Casey to the courthouse for a mental health evaluation.
However, it was later revealed that an evaluation was never arranged.

Vicky’s ruse served as a distraction to allow her and Casey time to escape from the LCDC.
At the time, Sheriff Singleton said in a statement: “Being the boss and over the transport, she just informed the booking officer that she was going to carry him to the courthouse and drop him off, which was a flagrant violation of policy.
“But I’m sure because it was her boss, the booking officer didn’t question it.”
What happened to Vicky White?
On May 9, 2022, police located Vicky and Casey in Evansville, Indiana.
As law enforcement found the fugitives, the two gave cops a car chase, and eventually ended up crashing their vehicle.
As the high-speed chase ended, Vicky was rushed to a nearby hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Later at the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries and died at the age of 56.
Meanwhile, Casey was taken back into custody and charged with first-degree prison escape, as well as felony murder for Vicky’s death.
On June 8, 2023, he pleaded guilty to the first-mentioned charge and was sentenced to life in prison.
By agreeing to the plea bargain, the felony murder charge was dismissed.
Vicky and Casey’s crimes are revisited in an episode of ABC’s 20/20 titled Catch Us If You Can.
On October 6, 2023, Catch Us If You Can is scheduled to air at 9pm EST via the abovementioned network.
During the broadcast, show anchors Deborah Roberts and David Muir gather accounts from those who were involved with the case.
Audiences who miss the initial broadcast can check out the episode via Hulu.
