Business owner Natalia Sidorova, 50, who runs Archie’s Fish and Chip Shop in Minster-in-Thanet, Kent, said it was the biggest potato they have seen in almost ten years there.

The whopper measures 10ins end to end and 6ins across.

Natalia said: “We’ve decided to keep it and let our customers guess how heavy it is.

“Then we will clean it and will make chips and also will ask our customers to guess how many portions we will get from it.”

The couple, who are originally from Russia, said it was the biggest potato they have ever come across in nearly ten years of working in the chippy.

They still don’t know how many portions the potato will yield – but Alexander speculated it could be “two medium portions”.

The world record for the biggest potato is held by Nottinghamshire vegetable grower, Peter Glazebrook for a spud weighing 4.98 kg.
