MANCHESTER UNITED left-back Luke Shaw has suffered another calf injury and will miss the start of the Premier League season.

Shaw was hit with the latest setback after returning to Carrington for pre-season training earlier this month.

The 29-year-old is now expected to be out of action until the international break next month.

That means he will miss fixtures against Fulham, Brighton and Liverpool.

An injury update from the Red Devils on Tuesday read: “Luke Shaw will miss the opening games of the Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training.

“He is working hard on his rehabilitation with a view to being available after the first international break.”

Shaw was not in Erik ten Hag’s squad for the Community Shield on Saturday.

The Red Devils suffered a 7-6 defeat on penalties to Manchester City following a 1-1 draw at Wembley.

Lisandro Martinez started the match at left-back, with Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire lining up in the centre of defence.

With Tyrell Malacia also out injured, Man Utd are now on the verge of signing full-back Noussair Mazraoui.

The 26-year-old is set to complete a £17.2m move having already travelled to Carrington for a medical.

He and centre-back Matthijs de Ligt are set to become United’s latest additions.

The Red Devils have already signed Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro this summer.

However, Yoro suffered an injury during United’s pre-season tour of the USA and is now set to miss three months.
