Cox appeared unsteady as she came out of the blocks and steered into the centre of the track.

As she tried to get back onto the racing line, the ParalympicsGB star fell off her bike and immediately looked over to her team for help.

After being seen to on the track, Cox was eventually helped off by a medic and her coach.

Officials subsequently denied the Leeds-born athlete a restart, leaving her visibly devastated.

Cox, who is considered one of ParalympicsGB’s all-time greats, was seen sobbing at the side of the track after the final.

The 33-year-old suffered a calf injury this year which has stopped her from competing in athletics.

Cox is a four-time Paralympic gold medallist having won events both on the athletics track and in the velodrome.

At Rio 2016, just two years after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, she won gold in the women’s T38 400m, silver in the women’s T35-T38 4x100m relay and bronze in the women’s T38 100m on track.
