It marks Bruce’s first return to management since he was sacked by West Brom in September 2022.
He previously managed Newcastle United between 2019 and 2021, when he left by mutual consent after a reported £8m payout.
He left St James’ Park just 13 days after the Saudi Arabia-backed £305m takeover of the Toonside club.
One of a handful of coaches who has reached the milestone of 1,000 games in club management, the 63-year-old will take charge of Blackpool’s training for the first time later this week.
Bruce said: “I’m delighted to be back in football and to take charge of this fantastic football club.
“I’d like to thank Simon, Julian and David for giving me this great opportunity.
“I look forward to meeting all of the staff and players in the coming days as we prepare for what we all hope will be an exciting season at Bloomfield Road.”
He takes over after the Tangerines sacked Neil Critchley on 21 August having started their campaign with back-to-back defeats.
