LUCA BRECEL believes he has turned a corner – both on and off the table.

The former world snooker champion, 29, has been working hard on his fitness over the summer.

Brecel shot to stardom after winning the 2023 World Championship by seeing off Mark Selby.

But he endured a miserable defence of his title earlier this year, crashing out in the first round to Dave Gilbert.

The 29-year-old has revealed he’s undergone a summer of change to rediscover his form on the felt.

Brecel is now into the third round at the British Open after ending his near six-month wait for a match win.

Following his 4-2 victory over Tian Pengfei on Tuesday, the Belgian Bullet said: “I’m playing the best I have ever played in practice.

“And in matches, I am making progress. Everything is sharp and I am in a good space. I am looking forward to this season more than ever.

“There are a couple of things to improve and I have not been used to winning a lot of games in a row, but I feel I am playing well enough to win the tournament.”

Brecel revealed he had been trying to drop weight and work on his fitness back in April.

He claimed it was all part of a “different approach” to the game in 2024.

The Belgian continued: “I have lost around ten kilos so I am feeling fit off the table.

“Cycling is great because I love being outdoors, it’s good for my body and mind.

“I used to look at rankings but not any more, I don’t even know where I am.

“It doesn’t matter because the way I am playing, I am never going to be really low. People keep busy with rankings.”

Following his win at the Crucible last year, the Belgian star splashed the majority of his winnings on a fleet of supercars.

Brecel paid £250,000, half of his World Champs earnings, on a stunning red Ferrari 488.

He then dropped £111,000 on a Porsche Taycan GT for his doting girlfriend Laura.

And to top it off, the snooker star forked out £80,000 for a Range Rover Sport.
