M4 closed: Motorway closed in both directions after serious collision as drivers warned it will be shut for ‘some time’

THE M4 has been closed in both directions following a serious crash.

The busy motorway has been shut off by emergency services near Margam, Port Talbot, with long delays building in the area.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the M4 is expected to be closed “for some time” and advised drivers to avoid the area.

A statement added: “We are at the scene of a collision on the M4.

“The road is closed westbound at J38 Margam, traffic to exit at the off slip and re-join at J38 on slip.

“Eastbound the road is close from Junction 40-38. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

Traffic Wales added: “Road remains closed in both directions.

“Westbound J38 Margam – J39 Groes – closed Eastbound J40 Taibach – J38 Margam – closed.”

“Long delays in the area, please find alternative route.”
