JET2 passengers were left “vomiting in terror” after a “loud bang” and mystery “chemical smell” in the cabin forced their plane to turn back.
The flight to Manchester had to return to Antalya airport in Turkey an hour and a half after taking off at 11.45pm on Tuesday.
A passenger said she heard a “loud bang” shortly after take-off followed by a “burning chemical smell”.
She told the Manchester Evening News: “Quite a few passengers were vomiting.”
A flight map shows the plane turning back over inland Turkey and heading back to Antalya, a resort on the country’s south coast.
Jet2 said: “Flight LS1702 from Antalya to Manchester followed standard procedure and returned to Antalya Airport yesterday, due to a technical issue.
“The aircraft landed safely and we arranged for all customers to be provided with hotel accommodation overnight.”
A spokesperson added: “We will be flying customers back to Manchester Airport today.
“We would of course like to apologise for the delay to their travel plans.”
