DEMOCRATS have been left stunned by their huge election defeat and have proved just how dangerously detached from reality they are, an expert says.
Dr Alan Mendoza told The Sun that Kamala Harris and her downed Dems miserably lost out to Donald Trump after heavily underestimating voters wants and needs.

Trump, 78, won the race to the White House after several swing states flipped red in a humiliating blow to his political rivals.
He is also on course to claim the popular vote in a seismic shock to America which for many shows the poor preparation by the Left.
Harris hasn’t been seen or heard from since Trump was confirmed as the next President with her office remaining in complete radio silence.
Many of Harris’ close pals on the Left have also been stunned into silence with only a few deflated posts from celebrity admirers coming out in the last 12 hours.
Dr Alan Mendoza, executive director for the think tank Henry Jackson Society, said the shock factor of the dismal failure can be linked back to a few crucial errors by the Harris administration.
He told The Sun: “They’ve lost connection with the American mainstream.
“I think there was just a lack of understanding of what the issues on the ground were.
“Four years of Democratic Presidential rule has not made Americans think that the party is capable of presiding over great success.
“If you looked at the exit polls huge numbers of people expressed dissatisfaction with what had happened.
“If your big issues are immigration and the economy and you’re talking about reproductive rights then you’re not connecting with the voters on the right sense.
“So I think nationally, Democrats are going to look at this election and go ‘how do we rebuild from here? What do we need to do in order to reconnect that American mainstream that clearly we’ve lost’.”
The other reason Alan says the Democrats failed so miserably is due to them underestimating Trump’s national appeal.
Many on the Left saw the Republican as weak opposition due to his legal battles since losing out to Joe Biden in 2020.
Harris was seen as the safe option by many voters whereas Trump was regarded as a “risk”.
This attitude left the Democrats severely underestimating the power that Trump commands on the average American.
The left have always underestimated Donald Trump. They’ve always thought this guy shouldn’t be allowed to win

Alan blames this lack of preparation to defeat a unique candidate such as Trump for both of the losses in 2016 and this year.
He said: “The left have always underestimated Donald Trump. They’ve always thought this guy shouldn’t be allowed to win.
“As a result of it they got sucker punched in 2016, and they got sucker punched again today.
“What they needed to do was campaign effectively against him and connect with the American people to make them convinced that he shouldn’t win and instead they didn’t do that.”

Another key factor that led to the Democratic downfall was them putting up Harris in the first place.
The Vice President took over the reigns months after Trump had already started his own campaign.
When Harris took over from a flailing Joe Biden she was already on the back foot and Alan and many others think she was never in the position to turn around Biden’s mess.
Alan said picking Harris was “a mistake” as she clearly wasn’t someone who the public could differentiate from Biden in terms of policy.
Voters and the Republican campaign focused on how picking Harris would simply mean a continuation of Biden’s America.
Under Biden many had grown tired of his stance on funding wars and the lack of respect for wider issues such as rising immigration and a dwindling economy.

This left many swing state voters feeling as if they were pushed to either vote for Trump and change or Harris and more of the same.
Alan added: “Harris had one very simple job to do, which was to connect with the American people and make it quite clear who she was and what she was standing for.
“But she did none of those things.”
Pre-Election Night Harris was surrounded by her Leftist pals from A-list celebrities to former politicians all backing her to keep the White House in the hands of the Dems.
Since her defeat only a few statements have been made from these devoted followers with almost all of the Left still stunned into silence.
Rapper Cardi B and model Cara Delevingne both chimed in with gloomy reactions to Trump’s victory.
Cardi B – who spoke at a recent Harris rally – shared a video with her head in her hands to Instagram, and a caption that read “I hate ya’ll bad.”
Supermodel Delevingne also posted a bitter note to her Instagram story.
She furiously wrote: “This is gutting yes, but freeing too. We get to make every day over the next four years hell for fascists, misogynists, bigots and liars.
“This is not the time to shrink. Nor the time to despair. This is the time for that classic Disney, larger than life, kinda gay, impossibly well dressed, unbelievably cool villainy. That punk rock, black parade guerrilla s**t. This is our villain era.
“Make art. F**k s**t up. Build power. They are about to learn the hardest thing about gaining power is keeping it.”
Former Newsnight star Emily Maitlis also had an on air rant as she referred to Trump as ‘bats***’ on live TV.
She was quickly pulled off air and her co-host was forced to apologise.
Harris’ fans were also left in total disbelief as Trump’s numbers continued to soar as the polls came in.
Harris’ camp had planned a major party and victory speech at her old university in Washington but within hours of the first few results filtering through announced it had been called off.
They also said the VP would not be making any appearance or commenting on the damaging loss.
Pictures showed downcast supporters flagging in the early hours after North Carolina flipped from blue to red.
When Georgia was called in Trump’s favour the mood dipped further.
Some leant on the railings, others sat, and many held their heads in their hands before giving up and going home.
Shortly after the Republican nominee took Pennsylvania – effectively marking the end of Harris’ hopes for the presidency.
A number of glum pictures followed and showed the once bubbly atmosphere had turned into a deserted ghost town, with rubbish strewed across the ground and discarded American flags.
