The 21-year-old has described being “completely shaken up and in bits” following the horror incident on Friday morning.
She got out of the car near junction 42 on the A15 near Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk, and it quickly erupted into flames.
Emma, who scrambled from the car at around 7.30am yesterday, said there were no warning lights but suddenly she couldn’t accelerate.
There was then a loud bang and the car was “juddering quite a bit”.
Assuming her tire had blown out, she pulled over at the exit to junction 42.
Emma told CambridgeshireLive: “I felt very worried and anxious about what was going on so reached for my phone to call my mum, then I noticed smoke coming from my bonnet so I got out.”
She went on to say that a man noticed the smoke and pulled over to help, before the fire erupted.
Emma said he stayed with her until the emergency services arrived, adding she was “very frightened”.
“I was lucky enough to get out before the car caught fire,” she continued.
She was checked over by paramedics for smoke inhalation and said she lost several belongings in the blaze.
