Andy Bean dead aged 70: Golf legend and 11-time PGA Tour winner dies after complications from double lung transplant

ANDY BEAN, an 11-time PGA Tour winner, has died at the age of 70 after suffering complications from a double lung transplant, according to reports.

American Bean had been suffering respiratory issues ever since contracting Covid, before he underwent a transplant last month.

He passed away in his hometown of Lakeland, Fla.

Bean leaves behind his wife Debbie and three daughters.

His first PGA Tour triumph came in 1977 when he clinched victory at the Doral-Eastern Open in Miami.

His final Tour win came nine years later in Dallas at the Byron Nelson Golf Classic.

He was also a three-time Champions Tour winner and featured in the Ryder Cup in 1979 and 1987.

He failed to claim a major during his golf career, but finished as a runner-up on three occasions.

They came in the 1980 and 1989 PGA Championship, as well as the 1983 British Open.

Tributes poured in for Bean on social media.

One person said: “Sad news. Another great of the game passes. RIP.”

Another added: “Great winner, beast of a man. Very tough in the late 1970s- early 1980s.”

A third replied: “Damn. Big fan of Andy Bean back in the day. Good man.”

While a fourth responded: “Golf lost a good one. Andy Bean passed away at 70. Gentle giant, Bermuda grass specialist with 4 of his 11 Ws in FL. Gator legend.

“Man of great faith, generous heart, loved fishing and family. Condolences to wife Debbie, their three children and all the grandkids.”
