Police locked off access to the park with a forensic tent placed over the car, according to residents on an online forum, who sensed something bad had happened.
One posted: “The tent does not bode well. I assume it’s a police tent and covers a spot where something very bad happened to someone.”
Others questioned what had happened, after police failed to release any details about the investigation.
But, a Met Police spokeswoman told The Sun: “Shortly after midnight on the morning of Thursday, 14 November, the Met was contacted by officers from Northamptonshire Police raising concerns for the welfare of a woman who was believed to be in a car in the east London area.
“The car was located parked in Brisbane Road, Ilford and the body of a 24-year-old woman was found inside the vehicle.
“Her death is being treated as suspicious.”
No arrests have been made and the crime scene remains in place while enquiries into the circumstances continue.
No post mortem examination result has been released either.
The spokeswoman added: “We continue to liaise with colleagues from Northamptonshire Police and at this time this is being treated as an isolated incident.”
A neighbour told Northamptonshire Telegraph: “The way that gate slammed I knew something had happened.
“Someone took off quickly.
“I had heard banging coming from the house and then they obviously just legged it.
“The police have been here about four days.”
