A DOUBLE murder investigation has been launched after two people were killed on the same street in Manchester – with one arrest made.

Emergency services attended the incident on Great Southern Street in Moss Side this morning.

It is understood both victims were stabbed. Cops say they were pronounced dead at the scene. One man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A cordon remains in place and two forensics tents have been set up.

A witness told the Manchester Evening News police were on the scene shortly after 5am on Sunday.

A spokesperson for GMP Longsight and Moss Side wrote on Facebook: “There is an emergency services presence on Great Southern Street in Moss Side whilst officers respond to an incident.

“Police have attended and despite the best efforts of emergency services, two people were treated at the scene and have sadly been pronounced dead.

“We have arrested one man on suspicion of murder.

“Please avoid the area as there is a large emergency service presence while we establish the full circumstances of the incident this morning.”

TEEN STABBED

It comes after a teenager was stabbed in Nottingham city centre in the early hours of the morning.

Officers were called to High Street shortly after 4am, with the victim taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Chief Inspector Iain Blackstock, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This assault left a young person in hospital with a stab wound to his chest.

“Our investigation is still at an early stage and we are working hard to establish exactly what happened.

“We are working in the area to gather evidence and would also like to speak to any witnesses who have yet to come forward.

“If you saw this attack or anything at all suspicion in the moments before and after we would like to hear from you.”
