England vs Italy preview
England can secure qualification with two matches to spare if they are successful against Italy on Tuesday.
The Three Lions sit top of Group C with 13 points from five matches – three ahead of Luciano Spalletti’s side who they conquered in Naples 2-1 in March.
Gareth Southgate made a raft of changes for Friday’s 1-0 win over Australia with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane and Declan Rice all unused substitutes.
England were unusually flat and fairly toothless in attack that night but will return to their strongest starting XI at Wembley this week.
A win will see Southgate’s side through to next year’s competition, but a draw could suffice if Ukraine are unable to beat Malta. If not, England have two fairly straightforward fixtures against Malta and North Macedonia next month.
The Three Lions are on a magnificent 12-game winning streak in Euros qualifiers at home, keeping clean sheets in 10 of those contests.
Italy cruised to a 4-0 over Malta last week, and beat Ukraine before that. However, they have lost two of their last five games on the road against Spain and Austria.

Who could back against a man in form? Jude Bellingham has been absolutely outstanding since arriving at Real Madrid this summer. The 20-year-old has 10 goals in 10 appearances and a further three assists to boot.

Harry’s back…
Harry Maguire has a point to prove against Italy.
The Manchester United centre-back has received so much criticism over the last several months, but manager Gareth Southgate will back his defender to the hills.
Maguire, 30, has been largely frozen out by Erik ten Hag since the Dutchman took charge at Old Trafford last summer, making just 16 starts in all competitions last season and only two more this term.
He’s set to start but could be more than a little rusty. He’s picked up 12 bookings in 59 England appearances, and two in five Euro 2024 qualifying matches – including the reverse fixture against Italy.
