Tragedy as mum killed & daughter injured when car mounted curb just days before Christmas

COPS have issued an appeal for witnesses after a tragic collision killed a mum in Essex yesterday evening.

Her 23-year-old daughter was also injured in the crash, which took place just before 5:30pm in the Westcliff area.

Cops were called to reports of a collision between a car and two pedestrians at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John’s road.

The woman and her daughter were both taken to hospital and despite the best efforts of medical professionals the 52-year-old has since died.

Her daughter’s condition is not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The driver of a black Suzuki Splash was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Aged 31, she remains in custody for questioning while the woman’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

The local Labour Party took to Facebook to share a tribute to the mother.

Cllr Maxine Sadza posted on Facebook: “On behalf of the Milton Councillors, it is with deep sadness that we have heard this morning that a speeding car mounted the pavement and hit a mother and child in St John’s Road in Westcliff last night.

“Tragically the mother passed away in hospital. Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.

“This tragic accident could have been avoided and was due to speeding

“There is a meeting called by Cllrs Cheryl Nevin, Sam Allen and Maxine Sadza on Saturday 14th December at the Haven Hub in Hamlet Court Road at 12.30 residents of St John’s Road and other roads around Hamlet Court Road to discuss traffic issues.”
