THOUSANDS are without water across the UK due to a “technical fault” – as schools have also been forced to close.

The issues are affecting supplies across Southampton, Romsey, Eastleigh and the New Forest, Southern Water has said.

The company announced the fault, which originated at Testwood Water Supply Works, this morning.

A spokesperson said that it had lead to low pressure or a complete loss of water supply in some areas.

They added that resolving the issue was “going to take time”.

Three schools have since announced closures – including Noadswood School, Greenwood School and Manor Church of England Infants.

Seven more have sent pupils home, according to Hampshire County Council.

These include North Baddesley Infant School, Halterworth in the Test Valley, The New Forest Academy, Cadland Primary School, Wildground in the New Forest, Mountbatten School Romsey and Orchard Jumior School.

Stephanie Davidovitz, Head of Water Networks at Southern Water said: “Our Testwood Water Supply works has run into some issues.

“We are working through plans to look at how we can restore supply in some areas but it is an emerging issue.”

The company added that was water was being delivered to vulnerable customers.

It also said that it had set up three bottled water stations for those affected by the fault, which are due to open shortly.
