Far from having sympathy with Sancho, the large majority of the squad have grown sick of the situation.

They blame the player and have told him he is in the wrong and needs to apologise to the Dutch boss and get back training with the first team.

Senior football staff have also told him he could have the problem sorted out immediately if he wanted to.

Boss Ten Hag has the full backing of the Old Trafford hierarchy in the dispute.

They say the ball is completely in the player’s court and must apologise to the manager for effectively calling him a liar in a public statement on social media.

Ten Hag put Sancho’s absence from the first-team squad for the defeat at Arsenal on September 3 down to poor levels of training.

But Sancho posted: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.

“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”

While he took down the post, the damage was done and he has been banished from the first-team squad.

It is not the first time Ten Hag has had problems with Sancho but those issues have been resolved.

However, Ten Hag felt this latest incident was a step too far and the club board respected his decision to make it public.
