McGregor, 36, has suggested that he wants to splash out on TWO League of Ireland clubs.

Alongside a picture posing with the FAI Trophy, won by Drogheda United in November, McGregor wrote: “How much is it to buy a League of Ireland team? I might buy two”.

McGregor, who is claimed to be worth around £200m, is the cousin of Drogheda forward Warren Davis.

But any purchase of The Drogs appears to be off the cards after the club distanced themselves from McGregor following the emergence of the photo of him alongside the trophy.

A statement from the club read: “A social media post has been brought to our attention today regarding the FAI Cup.

“Those pictured are a close relation to one of our first team players, who like all the other players had custody of the cup to celebrate with their families at different intervals.

“Drogheda United do not associate ourselves with the individual who made the social media post in any way, or with any unauthorised brands mentioned.”

In November, an Irish jury found McGregor liable for assault in a civil rape case.

The Irishman – who was accused of “raping and battering” Ms Hand – has vowed to appeal the verdict of the civil trial at Dublin’s High Court.

McGregor’s interest in buying a football club comes after tech billionaire Elon Musk was linked with purchasing Liverpool FC.

The Tesla and X chief, 53, is worth a staggering £340billion – making him the richest man in the world.

And according to his dad Errol, the American businessman is keen to invest some of his money into the Anfield club.

Speaking on Times Radio, Errol said: “I can’t comment on that, they’ll raise the price!”

“Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire to buy the club], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.”

Errol was pushed further and asked if buying the Reds was “in his son’s sights”.

He replied: “He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to – so would I.

“His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a few of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family.”
