The Magician. 42, ended a ten-year wait for the gong as he hit four centuries on the way to the title.

Murphy secured the biggest payday of his career with the win, taking home over £350,000.

He admitted to being in “complete shock” before kipping down for the night with his new trophy.

Wilson, the World No. 2, claimed Murphy “needed the title” more than he did in his post-match interview.

The Warrior, 33, said: “No disrespect to Shaun, he is turning into an old man now.

“So he needs this more than me.

“I am 33 years old, coming into my prime and I am having an amazing season.”

Murphy quipped back: “There is still a bit of life in the old dog yet.”

He continued: “I am a lucky lad win or lose. Listen I lost, I am gutted.

“But I tell you what, I am going to consume so many Jagerbombs tonight and have the best night ever.”

Earlier in the week, Wilson revealed he had been suffering from a freak injury – caused by his hotel mattress.

Following his win over Luca Brecel, he told the BBC: “With what’s gone on today, that’s one of the best wins of my career.
