JIM Acosta was a fixture on CNN from 2007, bringing viewers the latest news from the White House as both a correspondent and anchor.

But in January 2025 he announced that he’d decided to move on from the network. Here’s everything we know about his ex-wife Sharon.

Jim Acosta announced his CNN exit at the end of CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta on January 28, 2025

The news made the president happy

Jim Acosta’s future at CNN appeared to be uncertain after he was bumped from his 10 am weekday hour.

He announced that he was leaving at the end of CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta on January 28, 2025.

He said: “I just wanted to end today’s show by thanking all of the wonderful people who work behind the scenes at this network.

“You may have seen some reports about me and the show, and after giving all of this careful consideration and weighing in alternative time slots CNN offered me, I decided to move on.

“I am grateful to CNN for the nearly 18 years I’ve spent here doing the news.”

Acosta made the decision to move on from the network despite weighing up the alternative time slots offered to him by the network.

He hailed President Barack Obama‘s trip to Cuba in 2016 as the highlight of his CNN career in his final remarks to viewers.

Acosta said: “People often ask me if the highlight of my career at CNN was at the White House covering Donald Trump, actually, no.

“That moment came here,” Acosta explained in front of a photo of Cuban dictator Raul Castro.

“When I covered for President Barack Obama’s trip to Cuba in 2016 and had the chance to question the dictator there, Raul Castro, about the island’s political prisoners.

“As the son of a Cuban refugee, I took home this lesson. It is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant.

“I have always believed it’s the job of the press to hold power to account.

“I’ve always tried to do that at CNN and I plan to go on doing it in the future.

“One final message — don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to the fear.”

Jim is a major loser who will fail no matter where he ends up. Good luck Jim!

“A friend lives in his building and [has seen] him with different women,” a White House colleague told Page Six.

What did Acosta say to Trump?

Acosta famously asked Trump, “are you being a sore loser?” as the president stormed away from a press conference on November 5, 2020.

The barb was aimed at Trump as he huffed off stage following a rant about being “cheated” out of an election victory.

Trump baselessly claimed that the 2020 election had been “rigged” against him while again raising doubts over the mail-in ballots.

The extensive mail-in ballots were sent in by voters during the coronavirus pandemic.

What has President Trump said about Acosta?

Trump has repeatedly bashed Acosta and CNN, calling them “fake news.”

Trump told reporters during a press conference that the US has “done an amazing job with ventilators” and supplying them to the world.

Acosta interjected, “US has so many deaths…”

“Hold, hold, Fake News CNN, hold,” Trump said, and continued to talk up his administration’s response to the pandemic.

“We have done a great job in this country, we haven’t been given enough – enough me, I’m not talking about me – the vice president, the task force, have not been given the kind of credit” they deserve, Trump said.

It was not the first time that Acosta has clashed with Trump and members of his administration.

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany previously got into a heated debate with Acosta after the CNN correspondent accused Trump of “not telling the truth” about the coronavirus.

Acosta pointed out that Trump claimed the virus “affects virtually nobody” at an Ohio campaign rally – even as the number of COVID-19 deaths in the US had reached 200,000.

“At 200,000 deaths, shouldn’t the president be telling people the truth about this virus at his rallies?” Acosta asked McEnany during a briefing.

After hearing the news of Acosta’s departure from CNN, Trump posted on Truth Social: “Wow, really good news. Jim Acosta, one of the worst and most dishonest reporters in journalistic history, a major sleazebag, has been relegated by CNN Fakes News to the Midnight hour, ‘Death Valley,’ because of extraordinarily BAD RATINGS (and no talent!),” he wrote on Truth Social before Acosta announced his departure.

“Word is that he want to QUIT, and that would be even better. Jim is a major loser who will fail no matter where he ends up. Good luck Jim!”
