WILLIE MULLINS’ son Patrick has issued an update on El Fabiolo after the former superstar suffered an awful fall at Leopardstown.
The 2m chaser was hammered into 3-1 for yesterday’s Dublin Chase on day two of the Dublin Racing Festival.

Setting off under JJ Slevin, the retained rider for owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, El Fabiolo was expected to serve it up to stablemate and uneasy market leader Gaelic Warrior.

But his big return to the track after 281 days off was cut short in disastrous style at the second fence.
Racing wide under Slevin, El Fabiolo, who was pulled up when 2-9 for last year’s Champion Chase, looked to knuckle on landing.
There were gasps from the crowd as Slevin smashed into the turf, with last year’s winner El Fabiolo falling heavily too.
The horse was quickly attended to but fortunately got back to his feet and was walked back to the racecourse stables.
It was a day of bittersweet wins for Mullins, with Lossiemouth also suffering a heavy fall in State Man’s Irish Champion Hurdle win.
Son Patrick had an update on El Fabiolo after riding a winner at Carlisle on Monday.
He said: “I suppose it was a big ask for El Fabiolo after a year off but he got up and he was fine.
“I’m hoping, a bit like Galopin Des Champs (when he unseated at Cheltenham), it might teach him.
“Because he didn’t fall at Cheltenham, he just made a bad mistake and was pulled up.
“He might pick up his feet next time.”
