ANDROS TOWNSEND played with a new name on his shirt as he made his Luton debut.

Fans were shocked to see the former England star with a different name on his back against Nottingham Forest.

Townsend, who joined the Hatters during the international break, came off the bench as Luton battled back to earn a 2-2 draw.

However, supporters were confused to see their new number 30 with “Townsend Sr.” printed on his shirt.

Several fans questioned the “Sr.” on X, formerly Twitter, with one writing: “Hell of a comeback, that one. This Townsend Sr. fella looks like a decent acquisition, doesn’t he?”

Meanwhile, another added: “Is Townsend Jr. in the squad? If not, I’m struggling with this!!!”

Townsend’s new shirt name is in reference to his four-year-old son.

He and his wife, Irish model Hazel O’Sullivan, welcomed Andros Townsend Jr. in 2019.

As a result, the winger has switched from having “Townsend” on his back.

Luton completed the free transfer of Townsend earlier this month, signing the 32-year-old on a short-term deal until the end of this year.

Townsend had been a free agent after leaving Everton at the end of last season.

He had previously been on trial at Burnley during pre-season but was not offered a deal.

Rob Edwards’ side are now out of the bottom three after coming back from two goals down to draw with Forest on Saturday.

Chiedozie Ogbene pulled one back for the visitors before Elijah Adebayo’s stoppage time equaliser.

Townsend played the final 18 minutes after being brought on for Tahith Chong in the second half.
