IT’S all over in Munich with Celtic OUT of the Champions League for 2024-25 in the most dramatic fashion despite a stirring show against Bayern.
Trailing by just a goal to the Bundesliga leaders thanks to Daizen Maeda’s late header last week, the Hoops put in a fine display with the likes of Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn all going close in the first half.
But Kuhn eventually got a priceless goal to give them the lead on the night after some fine work from Daizen Maeda.
That looked certain to give them at least 30 minutes of extra time against the German giants – but Leon Goretzka got on the end of a Michael Olise cross and when Kasper Schmeichel saved, Alponso Davies was to quick and deflected Cameron Carter-Vickers’ clearance into the net.
Bayern Munich XI: Neuer, Stanisic, Upamecano, Kim, Guerreiro, Kimmich, Goretzka, Olise, Musiala, Gnabry, Kane. Subs: Urbig, Sane, Coman, Dier, Palhinha, Davies, Ito, Boey, Vidovic, Müller, Laimer, Pavlovic.
Celtic X: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Schlupp, McGregor, Engels, Hatate, Kühn, Maeda, Jota. Subs: Sinisalo, Bain, Scales, Taylor, Idah, Yang, McCowan, Nawrocki, Kenny, Murray, Ralston, Bonnar.
