COPS have launched an urgent hunt for a man after an alleged attempt to rape a male in his 20s.

The assault reportedly took place inside a social and health club on Commercial Road in Tower Hamlets, east London, between 5 and 6pm on February 17.

The Metropolitan Police released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify as part of their enquiries.

The force did not clarify if the man in the picture was the suspect, but urged the public not to “approach him directly”.

It is alleged that a man tried to rape the victim – a man in his 20s.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid to late 50s.

Detective Sergeant Stacey Smith said: “This was a terrifying experience for the victim, who continues to be supported by specialist officers.

“We are seeking the help of the public to identify the man in this image. Do you recognise him?

“Did you see him in the area that night? If you believe you know who he is don’t approach him directly, contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 3226/25Feb.

To remain anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
