Littler smashed James Wade 11-2 to clinch victory in the final.

Before that, he beat Jonny Clayton 11-6 in a semi-final thriller.

But as a result, he also missed watching his beloved Man United on TV.

The Red Devils took on Fulham at Old Trafford in the FA Cup.

Victory would have seen holders United book their place in the quarters.

But Ruben Amorim’s men could only muster a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes of football.

And they then crashed out on penalties after seeing two of their spot-kicks saved by Bernd Leno.

Littler has now revealed he found out about the heartbreaking defeat while on stage.

However, the news did not have a negative impact.

In fact, Littler claims it actually “spurred him on” to victory.

And before discovering United had lost, he reckons he wasn’t having any joy against Clayton at all.

Littler said: “I am happy. Obviously I’m in the final in my third attempt at the UK Open.

“But during the second break I heard about how Manchester United lost so it spurred me on a bit.

“I won the next five and then I only needed one leg and got the job done.

“Before I walked on it went to penalties. The first break I didn’t win anything of it and then the second break… And the third session was unbelievable.

“Having that five-leg gap and then you have to go off stage and you go on needing to win that one leg and I managed to get it.”
