Mob rule

BRITAIN’S immigration system is not just unfit for purpose — it’s becoming a national joke.

Certainly the foreign thugs, killers, rapists and drug-dealers who exploit its many failings are laughing at us.

Terrorist crimelord and killer Maksim Cela is still claiming asylum after arriving illegally to join his fellow Albanian mafia mobsters

Take terrorist crimelord and killer Maksim Cela.

He is still claiming asylum after arriving illegally to join his fellow Albanian mafia mobsters.

Despite the case being of overwhelming public interest, The Sun was forced to fight an immigration judge tooth and nail for 23 months for the right to name him — and reveal his appalling criminal background.

That includes masterminding the AK47 gun murder of a cop and plotting to detonate a bomb at a football stadium.

Yet Judge Nicholas Aldridge had insisted on protecting Cela’s human rights by masking his identity to prevent rival gang leaders from tracking him down.

Surely a monster like Cela forfeited any rights by leading a murderous gangster lifestyle? Instead he’s out on bail pending yet another appeal in court.

As a clear danger to the public, he should be immediately thrown on to the next plane to Tirana and deported.

We’re not holding our breath.

Cut or bust

FACED with near-zero growth, rising inflation and unemployment and soaring debt payments, Rachel Reeves now has to find billions more for defence.

What the Chancellor absolutely mustn’t do — as some Labour MPs are suggesting — is put up taxes to pay for it.

Slashing public spending is the only way to fund Britain’s security without driving the economy off a cliff.

Reeves rightly plans to take an axe to the monstrously bloated welfare bill.

Scrapping ruinously expensive Net Zero targets is another easy win at a time of huge global threat.

But if she is even slightly tempted to commit economic suicide by whacking up taxes instead, she should think again.

Two Tier fear

IN BRITAIN everyone is supposed to be treated equally in law.

So why on earth are judges and lawyers on the Sentencing Council recommending defendants from an ethnic minority, faith or trans background be potentially eligible for a softer punishment?

That suggests those without such a history — basically white people, who the Council doesn’t consider to have any characteristics worthy of special treatment — face tougher jail terms.

If so, isn’t this an example of exactly the kind of two-tier justice that the Prime Minister insists doesn’t exist?
