WE can’t oppose Kopek Des Bordes in the Michael O’Sullivan Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

He has a Timeform master rating of 154P, which is 5lb higher than his main market rival Romeo Coolio.

The ‘Large P’ attached to Kopek Des Bordes’ rating symbolises he’s open to significant improvement.

Kopek des Bordes looked something out of the ordinary when winning a Grade 1 at Leopardstown by 13 lengths from stablemate Karniquet last month, recording an excellent time in the process.

He goes into the Supreme as the highest-rated runner in the race since Altior, who won in 2016, and looks like a novice hurdler cut from a different cloth to most of his rivals.

Brighterdaysahead confirmed herself a genuine Champion Hurdle contender at Leopardstown over Christmas when slamming a below-par State Man by a remarkable 30 lengths.

That run earned her a Timeform rating of 167 which has been bettered by only Annie Power among the jumps mares this century, but in the Champion Hurdle she faces a superstar in Constitution Hill.

Only five hurdlers have earned a higher Timeform rating than Constitution Hill (177) who may not feel as invincible as he once was, but has extended his unbeaten record over hurdles this season.

He was outstanding when beating State Man in this race two years ago and, despite having to give weight to Brighterdaysahead, can regain his crown.

Joseph O’Brien won the Fred Winter 12 months ago with Lark In The Mornin and he has another leading chance in this year’s renewal with Puturhandstogether.

His rating of 144p is 2 lb lower than Timeform top-rated Hot Fuss, but he’s open to improvement, and he very much caught the eye on his qualifying run at Fairyhouse.
