Met Office map reveals where snow will fall in UK over next THREE days as Arctic air creeps across nation in -1C chill

A MAP has revealed exactly where snow is expected to fall in the UK over the next three days as Arctic air sweeps across the nation.

The Met Office has predicted snowfall across many regions as temperatures continue to drop from highs of 19C seen last weekend.

This comes as a yellow weather warning for ice has been issued by the forecaster for parts of northern England on Thursday.

Tonight, much of the snowfall is expected in the Scottish Highlands, with snow expected to continue to fall late into the evening.

Parts of the Peak District will also experience snowfall, although rain is expected too in the region.

Snow is expected to continue to fall in the Highlands area well into Thursday morning.

Parts of the North Pennines between Carlisle and Newcastle are also expected to see flurries of snow throughout Thursday morning.

The Highlands north of Pitlochry are expected to experience the heaviest snowfall shortly after 2pm on Thursday, with more than 4mm per hour being predicted.

On Friday, a range of snow is expected in both the Peak District, North Pennines, and Highlands throughout the day.

All three of these regions are expected to see more than 4mm per hour of snow falling by around 3pm.

Both the Highlands and North Pennines are also expected to have heavier snow in the morning hours on Friday.

This comes after the Cheltenham Festival saw early snowfall on day two.

Horses were seen galloping through the snowy conditions as Queen Camilla watched on alongside Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall.

In terms of the forecast for this week, the Met Office has said that showers, some of which could be wintry, will continue to affect many eastern and some northeastern areas this evening and overnight.

However, the rest of the UK is expected to remain dry, although this will allow a frost to develop, as well as some icy patches.

This frost will clear on Thursday morning to provide “another chilly day with sunshine and showers”, the forecaster said.

Much of this rainfall is expected in central, eastern, and far northern regions of the UK.

As we head into the weekend, The Met Office has said Friday will have a mixture of sunshine and showers, but that these will dissipate as we go into Saturday and Sunday.

However, the forecaster did warn that there is likely to be some overnight frost still over the weekend period.

‘GREATER CHANCE OF INJURIES OR ACCIDENTS’

A yellow weather warning for ice is in place for much of northern England from 3am until 9am on Thursday.

The forecaster has warned of “perhaps wintry” showers that could create a few icy surfaces, as temperatures drop “close to zero”.

It said: “Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, leading to a greater chance of injuries or accidents”.

The forecaster has advised residents to keep themselves and their families safe when it is icy.

PATemperatures have dropped dramatically from the 19C seen last weekend[/caption]

It said: “Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal.

“Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.

“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery.

“Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.”

The Met Office also advised those travelling to check road conditions or public transport timetables to give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays.
