The pundit had looked his normal self for some of the coverage.
And he was an animated figure in the stands at Anfield the night before as Liverpool exited the competition on penalties to PSG.
But after giving his views before the matches on Wednesday he was absent from the half-time lowdown.
It was a massive night for clubs like Aston Villa, who were bidding to reach the quarter-finals, and Real Madrid, who were involved in an epic second leg with neighbours Atletico.
