EAGLE-EYED Masters fans might have spotted an unfamiliar face playing the third round today – and he’s not even on the leaderboard.
Fifty-three golfers are teeing it up at Augusta this weekend after the cut at +2 trimmed down the field.

That of course left an odd number, with South Korea star Tom Kim – the last player to make the cut – forced to go out first on his own.
But given a player can’t play alone – to keep things honest and ensure there is no competitive disadvantage – the world No33 was paired with a marker.
Step in Augusta National member Michael McDermott, who has been the marker at the famous venue since 2022.
He also stepped in to play the Masters in 2023, to make up the numbers following Kevin Na’s withdrawal.
Per Joe Pompliano, McDermott, 48, is CEO of a financial services firm.
He adds that McDermott can drive the ball 300 yards, and that he also holds a membership at the Pine Valley and Merion clubs.
Seeing McDermott’s story, one fan wrote on X: “Dream Job!!! What’s the hiring process look like?”
While a second gushed: “What a cool tradition!”
A third commented: “Damn thats an honor.”

And a fourth cheekily added: “Augusta, Pine Valley, Merion? This guy would make a great friend.”
McDermott is said to be a very accomplished player at amateur level.
Per Golf Monthly, he has twice won the Crump Cup at Pine Valley.
He succeeded Augusta’s popular former marker Jeff Knox three years ago.
