A MAN has been killed and another person is fighting for their life after three cars crashed during a police chase.

Five other people were also injured following the accident in Croydon, London, on Friday night – with three trapped inside their cars.

Cops out on patrol spotted the 63-year-old victim driving with suspected cloned plates at around 8.28pm.

Ten minutes later, they tried to stop the vehicle – but it sped off, sparking a chase.

Eight minutes later, shortly before 9pm, the car collided with two other vehicles on Wickham Road, close to the junction with Shirley Road.

The suspect was given CPR but sadly died at the scene.

Meanwhile, fire crews rescued three other victims from inside their cars, before paramedics rushed them to hospital.

The man’s two passengers, both aged 61, were arrested on suspicion of being in a stolen vehicle.

One was also arrested for possession of class A drugs.

Both remain in custody.

The Met has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct over the incident.

A spokesperson said: “The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards was immediately informed and a referral made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) which is a required step whenever vehicles are involved in a collision involving death or serious injury following a police pursuit.

“The IOPC will now carry out an independent investigation.”

The road was closed following the incident but has since reopened.
