SEVERAL earthquakes have hit Turkey’s largest city Istanbul – the most powerful with a magnitude of 6.2.
The tremors occurred at 12:13 p.m, 12:49 p.m, and 12:51 p.m. local time.
People could be seen running from buildings as the quakes hit densely populated areas.
The tremors were felt across much of Istanbul, where a fifth of the Turkey’s population lives.
There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
