Brecel and Trump went head-to-head in a bid to set up a semi-final showdown against Mark Williams, who beat John Higgins in a 13-12 thriller.
The afternoon session saw both men land some pressure pots shots, with the game ending 8-8 ahead of the evening battle.
However, it was one massive fluke from Brecel, 30, that caught the eye of the crowd at the Crucible.
The Belgian, known for his flash lifestyle and love of fast cars, was attempting to play a safety shot with two reds left on the table, 27 points behind his rival.
The 2023 World Champion want to play off a red and leave the cue ball up by the baulk cushion.
But an unusual mis-hit saw the red ball ending up gliding along the table before being potted accidentally.
The crowd gasped as Brecel looked sheepish.
While the BBC commentator noted that he immediately apologised to Trump for the bizarre shot.

“Wow. No. He turns around to apologise!”
The other pundit declared: “A total mis-hit, a total mis-hit. Is there another twist in this frame?”
The first commentator then noted: “Wow, what a fluke this is.”
Elsewhere, Zhao Xintong sealed his place in the World semis with victory over Chris Wakelin.
He will play either Si Jiahui or Ronnie O’Sullivan, with The Rocket currently leading 10-6.
