MORE than 11,000 illegal migrants have now arrived in small boats across the English Channel this year.

It comes as Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp called Labour’s ongoing bid to “smash the gangs” a sick joke.

Scores more were seen crossing yesterday as people smugglers took advantage of the good weather to push boats towards the UK coast.

Home Office figures show 473 arrived on Monday, 422 on Tuesday and 294 on Wednesday, pushing 2025’s figure to 11,074.

Last year, it took until June to reach that total. April was twice as busy as this time last year.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and PM Sir Keir Starmer have vowed to smash the gangs behind the dangerous trade, which earns criminals millions a year.

But Mr Philp said: “Keir Starmer has absolutely no control over who is coming in.

“People crossing are mainly young men — some are criminals and extremists.

“Labour’s claim they are smashing the gangs is a sick joke. They have no plan.”

The Home Office said: “We are strengthening international partnerships, boosting our ability to disrupt gangs.”
