TEMPLEGATE tackles Friday’s racing confident of building the bank for a massive weekend.

COSMIC YEAR (2.20 Newmarket, nap).

The son of supersire Kingman was smashed into second favourite for the 2,000 Guineas after his blistering comeback win on the all-weather at Kempton last month.

But connections always said Newmarket would come a little too soon and he’s being aimed at the Irish version of the colts’ Classic at the end of this month.

That Kempton cakewalk was just the second time he’s seen a racecourse and built nicely on his debut win at Sandown in September.

Ryan Moore gets his first sit on him today and he can steer him right into the Classic picture.

ALPINE TRAIL (1.45 Newmarket, nb).

He hasn’t had a lot to beat in his two runs but travelled strongly when striking at Yarmouth earlier this month.

James Doyle was on board that day and took him to the front from the gate and the result was never in any doubt.

He didn’t run as a two-year-old and can make up for lost time by winning this under William Buick.

TOCA MADERA (2.35 Goodwood, treble).

He tanked along at HQ and was just caught in the closing stages when the lack of a recent run was telling.

He ran well at tricky Goodwood last season when third in a hot handicap at the Glorious meeting and quick ground is ideal for Brian Meehan’s flyer.
