A BABY has been rushed to hospital after a tree went up in flames next to a house.

The large tree was in a garden in Stockport and the blaze towered far above the home.

Emergency services were called to the Cherry Tree estate in Romiley at around 10am yesterday, MEN reported.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said a 37-year-old woman and eight-month-old baby were treated for burn injuries.

The North West Ambulance Service said one patient was taken to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for ‘further treatment.’

Fire crews remained at the scene for around four hours.

A GMFRS spokesperson said: “At around 10am yesterday, three fire engines from Marple, Offerton and Hyde, along with the aerial appliance from Whitehill fire station, attended a fire on Windsor Grove in Stockport.

“The fire involved a tree in the front garden of a property.

“Crews extinguished the fire, and an adult and a child were treated by a fire service trauma technician at the scene, before they were handed to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

“A fire safety assessment was completed at the property, and crews were in attendance for around four hours.”
