A MAN has been arrested after the body of a missing person was pulled from a river just two days after he vanished.

The body of the unnamed person was found at around 7.15pm on Saturday in a river near Treeton Lane in Rotherham after going missing on Thursday.

A 42-year-old has been arrested and remains in police custody.

Cops said that inquiries remain ongoing and a police presence will remain in the area over the next few days.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood said he knows the horror find would cause “considerable concern among the local community’ and insists cops are “working extremely hard to piece together the events which have led to this man’s tragic death.”

He added: “At the heart of this investigation is a man who has lost his life and a grieving family who are now coming to terms with that loss.

“Our thoughts are with them at this unimaginably difficult time.

“There will be an increased police presence in the surrounding area over the coming days so please speak to our officers to voice concerns or pass on information if you come across them.

“They are there to help”.
