MOHAMED SALAH produced the “miss of the season” during Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton.
The soon-to-be crowned Player of the Season could have wrapped up another Premier League Golden Boot there and then.
Liverpool forward Mo Salah missed a golden chance to score at Brighton on Monday
Fans have called Salah’s fluff the ‘miss of the season’ after the attacker rolled his shot wide from five yards out
With Liverpool leading 2-1 at the Amex, Salah had a huge chance laid on a plate from Cody Gakpo‘s low cross in the 54th minute.
The Egyptian, poised just seven yards from goal and almost dead centre between the empty posts, looked certain to score.
But the Ballon d’Or contender dragged his shot wide, with Bart Verbruggen‘s goal gaping.
As the home crowd jeered, Salah sulked into net in frustration, with the commentator saying: “Wow. An unbelievable miss from a player of his standards.”
It meant Salah’s quest to break the Premier League’s goal involvement record went on.
Salah’s double against Southampton on 8 March took him to 27 goals and 17 assists in 29 matches, just three goal involvements short of the record of 47, held jointly by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.
And after the footage went viral on social media, fans were equally in shock as they mocked one of the Prem’s greatest ever stars.
One wrote: “What a miss! Don’t let this guy near the Ballon d’Or.”

A second quizzed: “Wow. How can Salah miss from two yards out .”
A third added: “Salah just stopped caring the moment Liverpool won the title.”
Salah also looked certain to beat the record of 20 Prem assists in a season, jointly held by Arsenal‘s Thierry Henry and Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne.
But he has provided just one goal and one assist in eight matches, leaving him still one short of the goal involvement record and two short of the assist tally.
Salah‘s miss also appeared to upset many Fantasy Football managers, who had been banking on him to earn them points.
One wrote: “Mo Salah has just missed the target COMPLETELY from yards out. I am so done bro. Nah I’m fuming!”
Salah is still one short of the goal involvement record and two short of the assist record
Salah, currently on 28 Prem goals this season, has five more than his closest Golden Boot rival Alexander Isak.
Isak will need to score a handful against Everton on the final day, while Liverpool hosts FA Cup champs Crystal Palace.
Arne Slot’s champions were leading at the time of Salah’s miss thanks to earlier strikes from Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Those goals came either side of a first-half equaliser by Yasin Ayari.
To rub salt into Salah’s wounds, Brighton hit back again to make it 2-2 when Kaoru Mitoma netted his third goal in four games in the 69th minute.
The Seagulls, chasing European qualification, then secured all three points courtesy of a late goal from Jack Hinshelwood.
