The bodies were so decomposed that they were unrecognisable, according to the Spanish police.

Authorities confirmed that both bodies were found in one of the rooms of the apartment, and that early evidence points to a “violent incident”.

Cops were alerted after tourists staying in nearby rooms reported a bad smell in the community corridor.

It is understood that a reservation for the room was made by a young Italian who came to spend a season of rest in the south of Tenerife along with a woman.

However, the identities of both victims have not been confirmed yet.

Police are trying to find more information about the victims.

The bodies have been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for forensic tests.

The investigation is still open and proceedings are being kept secret by the investigators.
