Grant left Old Trafford in 2022 after four years at the club – he only made two United appearances.
He has since worked as a first-team coach at Ipswich Town under Kieran McKenna.
Grant helped the Tractor Boys win back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
He could not prevent them from avoiding the drop and is now set to leave Portman Road.
Huddersfield have been searching for a permanent manager since sacking Michael Duff in March.
Jon Worthington took charge as interim boss and oversaw a slide down the League One table, finishing 10th.
Grant has plenty of EFL experience under his belt, having made 511 career appearances.
He started out at Derby and later returned to the Rams, performing between the sticks between 2013 and 2016, with his side often challenging for the play-offs.

His form in the Midlands earned him a move to then Premier League side Stoke.
Grant made 35 appearances for the Potters before signing for United in 2018, where he acted as third-choice keeper.
