The unnamed child went over the edge of his balcony at the Aparthotel Vibra Bay in the Ibizan holiday resort of San Antonio just before 8.30pm on Tuesday.

Police investigators confirmed overnight the horror incident was being treated as an accident.

Hospital chiefs are expected to update the injured youngster’s condition later today.

The young boy was initially rushed to a private clinic in Ibiza Town where he underwent an emergency operation.

He then had to get airlifted to Son Espases Hospital in the Majorcan capital Palma.

Medics diagnosed severe brain trauma, saying he had a skull fracture, subdural haematoma and a cerebral oedema.

They also listed injuries including a fractured jaw and chest trauma.

The transfer to Majorca reportedly occurred because no paediatric intensive care unit beds were available in Ibiza.
