And tonight MPs lashed out at the group for using the “tactics of Just Stop Oil or the Spanish Armada”.

In an email to supporters seen by The Sun on Sunday, Republic states: “We are looking for those who own (or knows a sympathetic person who owns) a Thames-worthy vessel to assist in the visual aspect of the protest.

“As always our protest is peaceful and legal. Intrigued? Get in touch to find out more.”

Former Justice Secretary Robert Buckland blasted the plan to launch a republican armada.

He fumed: “People of course have the right to protest.

“But taking a boat out on to the Thames is taking it a step too far.

“They shouldn’t use the tactics of the Spanish Armada or Just Stop Oil to make their point.”

Tory MP Jonathan Gullis said: “It’s sad this tiny minority is so determined to undermine the very democratic process they claim to support.

“They should do us all a favour and put their oars away.”

Republic head Graham Smith said: “We are after a boat. We haven’t got one yet.”

Buckingham Palace, Met Police and the House of Lords — which organises the event — all declined to comment.

It will be the first time Charles has presided over the ceremony in his own right, although he did stand in for the Queen.

The speech will outline Government policies, priorities and planned laws for the year ahead.

It is likely to be the last Charles gives before the next General Election.
