Glamorous Chuangsri topped a competitive field of 108 women at the ultimate beauty showcase this weekend which was held in India.

Chuangsri was handed the glitzy crown from last year’s winner Krystyna Pyszková.

It marks the first time a woman from Thailand has ever won the historic competition.

Hasset Dereje Admassu of Ethiopia came second at the 72nd annual beauty pageant.

The official Miss World Instagram page announced the winner on social media.

They wrote: “What a night, what a team! The new Miss World, crowned in Telangana a few minutes ago, is Opal Suchata – the first Thai woman to win the Miss World title and the blue crown.

The annual event was marred in controversy this year after Miss England hit back at Miss World bosses after they accused her of lying to escape the pageant.

Milla Magee, 24, walked out on the contest in India after she claimed she and the other finalists were being “exploited”.

She told how they were used to entertain wealthy male “sponsors” at posh dinners in Hyderabad as a “thank you” for the money they pumped into the show.

Milla said she was made to feel “like a prostitute”.

In a fiery response, Miss World organiser Julia Morley released videos of Milla at the competitor hotel which appear to show her enjoying the experience.

Ms Morley said Milla told bosses she had “a family emergency involving her mother’s health” and that they treated her with “compassion” and arranged her return to England.

The Brit admitted her mum was suffering with a health issue but claimed she “said what I needed to say to get out of there”.

She added: “I was feeling vulnerable after the appalling way we had been treated and I just needed to go home.

“I couldn’t stay in a contest that did not appear to me to be morally right.

A Miss World spokesperson described the claims as “completely unfounded and inconsistent with the reality of her time with us”.

Miss World originated as a bikini contest back in the 1950s but it has since gone on to become the oldest and longest-running international beauty pageant in history.

It makes up one of the “Big Four” shows which also include Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth.
