Grealish, 29, was signed from Aston Villa for £100million in 2021.

However, after being a core member of Pep Guardiola‘s title and Treble winning sides, Grealish has fallen down the pecking order.

Last season he played 32 games in all competitions, but only half of these were starts.

Consequently, it is expected he will leave the club this summer, with Napoli among the interested parties – as exclusively revealed by SunSport in May.

However, in the clearest indication of the £100m flops future, he will be left out of his club’s squad selection for the new-look Club World Cup in the United States, according to The Telegraph.

He was also left out of his club’s final Premier League game of the season at Fulham.

On that decision, and speculation over Grealish’s future, Guardiola said: “Of course, Jack has to play. He’s an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days.

“It didn’t happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it, with us or another place.

“It’s a question for Jack, his agent and the club. If he stays it will be fine and he will fight like he fought from day one to make a contribution, but not today.”

The report says City are happy to let Grealish leave the club to pursue regular football, and all sides recognise that taking him across the pond with the rest of the squad would not be in anyone’s best interests.

However, given his colossal £300,000-a-week wages, any sale and subsequent contract agreement would take a lot of negotiating to make happen.

This being said, the report adds there is the chance of a loan move for the former Villa captain.

Reports elsewhere indicate City are in talks to sign Lyon winger Rayan Cherki.

Grealish has designs to be back in the plans of England manager Thomas Tuchel for next years World Cup, but will need regular football to achieve that.

The playmaker was named by the German in his first two matches before failing to make the cut for the ex-Chelsea bosses latest squad for a World Cup qualifier against Andorra and friendly against Senegal.

Speaking about Grealish after selecting him the first time around, Tuchel said: “As a headline, I love Jack. I love everything about him. I love his personality, I love his quality.

“The guy has courage, he can take the heat, he’s not afraid of the Bernabéu whistles when he’s on the ball, it does not affect him and if it affects him only in the best way.

“So is he a player that should be available and can have an impact in our squad? Yes, 100 per cent.

“But lately, he simply has no rhythm and he himself, and I agree 100 per cent with this, said: ‘Listen Thomas, I’m not a start-stop player. It is so hard for me to influence a match from the bench and then be on the bench again, and then two weeks later I start again.’

“I’m not judging anyone, not at all, but it’s just a characteristic of Jack, he gets better with every minute. The more he plays, the better he gets and then he becomes a proper machine.”

The Club World Cup will begin on June 14 and run through to July 13.
