A MAN has tragically died after getting into difficulty while swimming near a UK beauty spot.

The alarm was raised at Tor Bay, near Penmaen village on the Gower Peninsula, in South Wales, this afternoon.

Coastguard crews, police and paramedics were called to the beach.

A 50-year-old from Sandfields, Swansea, was pulled from the water at around 1pm, said South Wales Police.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at around 4pm.

SWP said the man’s family has been informed.

A tourist who saw the tragedy unfold told The Sun a member of the coast guard warned the area has “dangerous waters” and “frequent riptides”.

They added: “There were many emergency services working together to recover the man.

“Police, coast guard boat, helicopter and cliff climbing team.

“It looked like they were trying to resuscitate him in the helicopter.

“Afterwards, the climbing team headed back to their vehicles and when we spoke to them, he said the man didn’t survive.”
