Promes, 33, was arrested a week ago at his home in Dubai after a request by the Dutch police.

The former Sevilla, Ajax and Spartak Moscow winger’s extradition comes after he said he was willing to return to his homeland to appeal and cooperate with his trial.

Prosecutors say Dubai authorities were ready to extradite him anyway.

Promes is accused of stabbing his cousin after an argument in 2020.

He was set to go on trial for attempted murder until it was downgraded to aggravated assault.

Promes stayed in Moscow and did not attend court in 2023, with Russia not having an extradition treaty with Holland.

He was hit with a 18-month prison sentence that he would appeal.

Then later that year, Promes was given six more years behind bars for his involvement in a group caught smuggling 1,370kg of cocaine.

The 50-time capped international was put on a global wanted list and police seized nine properties in Holland under his name.

Promes continued playing for Spartak Moscow despite the criminal charges.

He had most recently been representing Dubai United until earlier this year.

The winger was with Spartak for seven years over two spells, scoring 114 goals.

Promes spent the 2018/19 campaign with Spanish side Sevilla and two seasons at Dutch giants Ajax.
