A major search was launched for the “vulnerable” teen and cops found clothing belonging to the 18-year-old at Redcar beach on June 16.
Her aunty Nicky Betteridge told Teesside Live one of the items included Serren’s late mum’s dressing gown cord.
Previous CCTV footage showed Serren walking towards the beach alone, at around 9pm.
It is now understood the teenager stayed in the vicinity of the beach.
Officers sadly recovered Serren’s body on July 10 from the sea in the Humberside area.
Formal identification is yet to take place, but the teenager’s next of kin have been informed.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson confirmed: “Sadly, on Thursday, July 10 police received a report that a body had been located in the sea in the Humberside area.
“Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, officers have informed Serren Bennett’s next of kin, who is being supported by specialist officers.
“All our thoughts are with Serren’s family at this difficult time.”
Serren’s family is currently being supported by specially trained officers.
