Fighting professionally for the 73rd time, Pac Man could make history this weekend with a chance of becoming the oldest welterweight champion in boxing history.

The legendary boxer hasn’t fought in four years and is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Yordenis Ugas in 2021.

Boxing’s only eight-division world champion will have to face the current titleholder Mario Barrios.

Barrios, 16 years younger than Pacquiao and in his prime, enters the fight as the heavy favourite.

With Pacquiao chasing history this weekend and the chance to become the oldest welterweight champion in boxing history, many believed it could also make him the oldest world champion ever.

But that accolade will still belong to Bernard Hopkins.

Hopkins, now 60, broke the record in 2014 when he successfully defended his IBF world light heavyweight title and added the IBA belt with a win over Beibut Shumenov.

The record was previously held by George Foreman, who became the IBF World Heavyweight champion in 1994 at the age of 45.

Hopkins, known as The Executioner became the oldest world champion in 2013 by winning the IBF light heavyweight title aged 46.

He defended the belt later that year, and after turning 49 in January 2014, he broke his own record again, becoming the oldest reigning world champion in boxing history.
