Martinez, 32, has impressed United chiefs with his performances for Aston Villa and Argentina.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the World Cup winner would be “very keen” on a move to Old Trafford.

But following a loan approach by the Red Devils, Villa made it clear that their goalkeeper is not for sale.

Unai Emery‘s side are in a strong bargaining position, with four years remaining on Martinez’s contract.

Conversations are taking place within United about whether to sign a younger or more experienced stopper.

Should they opt for the former, Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp is a player that they admire.

The Belgian, 23, has established himself in his country’s top flight, and also earned his first senior international call-up earlier this year.

Lammens has just two years remaining on his Royal Antwerp deal.

During conversations with Aston Villa regarding Martinez, United also enquired over the availability of Ollie Watkins.

The Red Devils remain keen on strengthening their forward line, despite already bringing in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

Villa informed United chiefs that they want to keep Watkins this summer.

But it remains to be seen whether Ruben Amorim‘s side will look to test the Midlands club with a sizeable bid for the forward.

In addition to Watkins, the Red Devils have also been linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

They will not be going for Alexander Isak, however, with the wantaway Newcastle star deemed too expensive.
